Energy auditing focuses on the whole home, rather than just one portion of it. Have you recently called in an HVAC specialist or someone who does caulking? Although any repair or improvement such as this may be helpful, an energy audit looks at everything in your home at one time. The auditor determines what in your home is working inefficiently. Other areas they address are ones that can make your uncomfortable or sick. In order to have a successful audit, you must find someone who has energy audit training. Only someone with the necessary certification can give you a comprehensive report that you can trust. When you consider the energy audit training of someone, you must look at a number of things. Look for someone who is certified to be a BPI building analyst. In order to complete this type of training, an exam must be passed. This exam will consist of two portions. The first is a written exam. Here your auditor must obtain a score of 70% on 100 written questions within a two hour period. Then he or she must also pass a field exam. Only after successful completion can he or she use the title. This is to ensure that you are receiving a quality audit and not spending a fortune on unnecessary repairs that will not reduce your energy consumption.
